In every group, there is one who always holds it together. The problem solver. The steady hand. Maybe that person is you. But when everyone leans on you, who do you lean on?
Even the Strong Need Support
Check on your strongest friends. And if you are the one they lean on, make sure you have someone, too. This matters in life, and it matters in leadership.
Real leadership starts with being real. Even the strongest need space to breathe. The pressure to always be composed can wear you down quietly. Burnout does not always look loud. Sometimes it looks like holding it together just a little too well.
Ask yourself, “How am I really doing?” You are not a machine. You are human. Being strong is not about never breaking it; it’s about knowing when to pause, reset, and come back stronger.
Build Your Support System
And remember your support system…hopefully, you have a personal board of advisors. This is something I often discuss for your career development. And, it’s also your personal support network:
- Trusted mentors
- Confidants
- Friends who offer guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear.
They are lifelines for your emotional well-being. In other words, they are people who genuinely care about you, not just what you can do for them.
Redefine Strength
So often, we move through life with the misconception that needing help is a sign of weakness. Reject that notion. Banking on your own resilience alone is unsustainable. It’s time to break the cycle of silent suffering and recognize that strength comes from interdependence.
If you are always strong, take a step back. Lean on your support network. That is the only way to be the rock for others without crumbling beneath the pressure.
