How to Foster a Growth Mindset Within Your Organization

Jun 14, 2023 | Leadership

Are you creating and fostering an environment where your team strives to be better every day? Where is your company innovating and adapting to meet the needs of your current and future customers?

Do you operate from a growth mindset or a fixed one?

A leader with a growth mindset looks at current and potential opportunities, listens to and learns about what is needed. The leaders then make the necessary changes required to keep pushing to be better. A leader with a fixed mindset won’t see those opportunities as they see the current status as unchangeable or acceptable.

To foster a growth mindset in your company, there are some key steps to think about:

  1. Lead by example: Ask your team for feedback and truly listen to what they say, talk about your learnings and create opportunities for them to learn as well; share your wins, challenges and even miss-steps as a leader.
  2. Encourage a learning culture: Celebrate learning overall and work through individual mistakes with support and coaching to provide learning opportunities. Create an environment that is safe for risk-taking, experimentation, and provide resources for continuous learning.
  3. Provide constructive feedback: Offer timely, specific and constructive feedback from a coaching perspective to help individuals learn and find their own way through the circumstance.
  4. Recognize effort, progress and achievements: Acknowledge and reward effort and progress over solely focusing on outcomes. Celebrate small and big wins.
