The Best Way to Set Resolutions and Intentions

Feb 4, 2026 | Sales

Resolutions and intentions should feed the future that you’re excited to actualize.

Too often, a resolution or intention is set for the year, only to fade away before February. This usually happens because there is no action plan behind it. Here’s my advice to make things happen this year:

Begin with intention. Ask yourself, “How do I want to feel in March? What would ‘proud’ look like in June?” Then, turn that into a series of actionable goals with clear outcomes.

Professionally, you might decide to join a mentorship circle, creating one portfolio piece each month, dedicating two hours a day to deep work, or volunteering to lead a project. Ask your manager for an education budget and offer to share what you learn.

Personally, you might try improving your health by setting an 8-hour sleep goal, taking 10K steps daily, or focusing on well-being through therapeutic journaling or a weekly phone free night. Do you want to cook at home three nights a week or read 12 new books over the year? Start strength training twice a week (your back will thank you in December!).

Choose achievable goals and focus on three key ones. Break each goal into weekly tasks and attach these habits to your current routines. For example, a goal could be, “After (or with) my morning coffee, I will write for 20 minutes.”

Add the support you need, such as a buddy or an app, then reduce friction. That could involve silencing notifications or setting your alarm 15 minutes earlier.

Throughout the year, regularly check your progress. Celebrate your victories and acknowledge weeks that aren’t perfect. Imperfect weeks will happen, providing a great chance to reflect on your goals and adjust them if needed.

This year, make momentum a decision, one honest promise at a time.
