The Communication Skills You Should Be Focusing Your Team On

Aug 2, 2023 | Communication

Enhancing your team’s communication skills is an ongoing pursuit that remains as important today as it was two decades ago.

Active Listening

Active listening deserves primary focus in your communication workshops. Active listening is the foundation for impactful communicating as it is about listening to hear, not listening to respond. Active listening means you’re engaged in a conversation at a level that allows you to process what someone is saying and respond accordingly. It is important to note that while you’re listening to what someone says, it is also about reading and understanding body language – non-verbal cues.

Strong Verbal Communication

Strong verbal communication skills empower your team to express themselves clearly and engage in meaningful conversations. This is about what you say, how well you can communicate or convey your message through your word choice, storytelling, and ability to engage others in meaningful dialogue.

Strong Writing Skills

While we do not put pen to paper too often anymore, presentations, proposals, emails and even text messages require strong writing skills. You must be able to convey ideas clearly, concisely, persuasively, and with clarity. Before you send your document or email, ask yourself if the recipient will understand what you’re telling them, what they need to take away or what action they need to take from what you’re writing to them about?
