The Impact of a Personal Board of Advisors

Sep 27, 2024 | Collaboration, Personal Growth

The more I work with emerging generations and young professionals, the more I reflect on how much has changed since I was in their shoes. And let me tell you, a TON has changed.

We all notice the obvious shifts—the rapid evolution of technology, the flood of information at our fingertips, and the endless ways we can communicate—but what we don’t always think about is how the workforce itself has evolved. I’m not just talking about the age of workers. I’m talking about the shift in what leadership looks like, how we advocate for our careers, what company loyalty means today, and the changing expectations of individuals in the workplace. The way I was trained in business is a far cry from how things operate now.

As I reflect on my own professional growth, I can point to many factors—hard work, experience, opportunities, and a relentless curiosity to grow. But one thing I keep coming back to is my personal board of advisors.

I rely on my personal board regularly to bounce ideas off them, to seek their advice, and I realize this has been a constant throughout my career. I may be an expert in my field, but I don’t pretend to know everything. In my ongoing effort to improve in all that I do, I lean on the incredible support team I’ve built over the years. And you know what? They lean on me for the same reasons. Together, we’re a powerful force.

So, let me ask you—who’s on your personal board of advisors?
